1770, George III, Halfpenny. Ten years after George III's accession saw the first issue of halfpennies. At the time counterfeiting was rampant and in 1771 the making of counterfeit coin became a crime. This had little effect for the next 20 years as most of the coins in circulation were counterfeit. This example is not counterfeit and is an excellent example of this type of coin. Two types are generally recognized and this type has a stop on the reverse. Spink 3774, CC Ref# GS-8, aEF
